Yes. Microcement applies directly over existing tiles, concrete, cement board and plywood when properly primed, eliminating the need for tile removal.

How thick is a Microcement application? +

A standard Microcement system is 2-3 mm total thickness, comprising two body coats (A and B) at a combined coverage of 2-3 kg/m2, plus primer and seal coat.

Is Microcement suitable for floor traffic? +

Microcement is rated for light to moderate foot traffic and is widely used for residential floors, bathroom walls and hospitality interiors.

How long between Microcement coats? +

Microcement requires 24 hours between coats and achieves full cure in 7 days.

STEP 1

Surface Preparation -- Substrate must be cured minimum 28 days. Surface must be firm, dry, clean, free from sand, dust, rust, oil and contaminants. Moisture content less than 10%, pH below 10. Fill cracks with anti-crack mortar. Ambient temperature 5-40 C, humidity below 85%.

STEP 2

Primer Application -- Apply 1 coat of penetrating primer evenly using a short-hair roller or spray equipment. Coverage: 0.125 kg/m2. Touch dry 1-2 hours, hard dry 2-3 hours. Ensures adhesion for subsequent layers.

STEP 3 (OPTIONAL)

Glass Fibre Mesh (Floors Only) -- Install standard glass fibre mesh reinforcement over primer for crack prevention and structural integrity. This step is required for all floor applications.

STEP 4 (OPTIONAL)

Coarse Sand Layer (Floors Only) -- Mix powder and emulsion at 16:4 ratio with low-speed mixer for 3 minutes. Add 5-10% water and colour paste. Apply 2 coats at 1.5-1.8 kg/m2 using trowel, 0.15-0.2 mm per layer. Polish with 80-mesh sandpaper after each coat. Allow 12-24 hours drying between coats.

STEP 5

Two-Component Fine Sand -- Mix powder and emulsion at 10:4 ratio with low-speed mixer for 3 minutes. Add 5-10% water and colour paste as needed. Apply 2 coats at 1.11-1.3 kg/m2 using trowel or spray, 0.1-0.12 mm per layer. Polish with 180-mesh sandpaper after each coat. Allow 12-24 hours drying between coats.

STEP 6 (OPTIONAL)

Transparent Primer Seal (Floors Only) -- Apply 1 coat of transparent primer using roller at 0.125 kg/m2. Polish with 240-mesh sandpaper after drying. Touch dry 2-3 hours.

STEP 7

Top Coat Application -- Walls: Apply 2 coats of matte top coat using roller at 0.125 kg/m2, 4-6 hours between coats. Floors: Mix top coat with hardener, apply 2 coats at 0.25 kg/m2, 6-10 hours between coats. Provides UV protection, waterproofing and sealed finish.

STEP 8

Post-Application Care -- Clean with water or mild detergent (TSP). Never use acid-based or abrasive products. Professional cleaning every 3 years. Annual inspection for damage or wear. Sealant refresh every 5-7 years for high-traffic areas.
